Register now for the Diabetes Self-Management Workshop Series: Kauai Now : Kauai News & Information
Kaua’i kupuna ages 60 and older are invited to attend a series of workshops offered by the county’s Seniors Affairs Agency on how to self-manage diabetes.
Registration is now open for the agency’s next series of diabetes self-management workshops. The series of interactive workshops will run for six weeks starting Tuesday, September 20. Classes will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Tuesday via conference call. To get the most out of the series, participants should plan to attend all six sessions.
“We are thrilled to be offering this program for the second time this year, as we know many of our Kaua’i kupuna have benefited from learning about self-management and the importance of self-care when it comes to diabetes.” , Kealoha Takahashi, head of the Agency for the Elderly, said in a press release.
Pre-registration is compulsory and limited to eight participants. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis. Once registration is complete, anyone interested in participating will be placed on a waiting list for future workshops.
To register for the workshop, contact Johnny Yago at 808-241-4898 or by email at [email protected]

- Appropriate exercise to maintain and improve strength and endurance.
- Balanced diet.
- Appropriate use of medications.
- How to work more effectively with health care providers.
Participants will make weekly action plans, share their experiences and help each other solve problems they encounter while creating and carrying out their self-management program.
The workshop is part of a statewide initiative called Hawai’i Healthy Aging Partnership – Empowering Elders. For more information, visit the Hawaiian Partnership for Healthy Aging website or the Agency for Senior Citizens’ Affairs website and click “Calendar” under the “Resources” tab.
