By Zoila Palma González: Today, Pathlight Belize inaugurated a new Orange Walk Resource Center.

Prime Minister John Briceno and Special Envoy for Family and Child Development Rossana Briceno were present at today’s event.

“Partnership is key to keeping our children in school and addressing multidimensional poverty that families experience and which impacts children’s ability to stay in school,” the Special Envoy noted.

The Special Envoy also shared that data shows that the transition between primary and secondary schools and the first two years of secondary school are where we lose many of our children within our education system.

“There are many reasons for this including affordability, poverty, underfunded schools, untrained teachers, and lack of support for our children through the education process, to name a few. just a few,” she added.

Briceno says that through Pathlight, children not only benefit from tuition, fees, uniform and books, but also have access to digital devices, academic tutoring, psychosocial support, spiritual mentoring, development from leadership, to STEM, arts and sports programs.

These opportunities ensure that the most vulnerable, especially girls, are empowered to become competent leaders able to work, thrive and cooperate in a dynamic and increasingly interconnected world, Briceno said.
