#HalfTheStory and Unplug Collaborative join forces for World Unplug Day on August 7

SAN FRANCISCO, July 20, 2021 / PRNewswire / – #HalfTheStory, the leading nonprofit with a mission to strengthen the next generation’s relationship with technology through advocacy, education and research, has announced the date and details of the second editing World disconnection day. In partnership with Unplug Collaborative, organizers of the National Unplug Day, the next-generation digital wellness nonprofit is mobilizing communities around the world to take 24 hours to unite, reflect and connect on August 7, 2021.

Participants are invited to take the pledge, promising to spend time away from mobile devices, get out in nature, connect with family, do crafts, read, meditate or participate in any other activity that keeps them connected to life real.

Led by mental health advocate Gen-Z and #HalfTheStory founder, Larissa May, Global Day of Unplugging aims to address the intersection between technology and emotional well-being.

“After a year where people around the world were universally glued to their computers, televisions and mobile devices, relying on them for news, school, work and personal connections, take a day to reset, recharge and reconnecting to life is more necessary than ever, “said Larissa May.

#HalfTheStory has also partnered with a number of notable organizations to support World Disconnection Day and spread the message of mindfulness.

  • YMCA: #HalfTheStory has launched an educational digital toolkit dedicated to elementary and middle-aged children, available to all participating YMCAs.
  • JIGGY: The female-founded puzzle company that reinvents the humble puzzle and reconnects people with downtime and mindfulness will launch an exclusive puzzle created in honor of World Disconnection Day in partnership with New York City-based artist, Grace Miceli. With 50% of the proceeds supporting #HalfTheStory, this personalized puzzle encourages people to switch off and enjoy the simple things again.   • Fridge: In support of World Disconnection Day, this New York CityA destination based on modern personal care will launch new screenless lockers in their spaces to encourage people to go offline.

For its part, Unplug Collaborative builds on its annual program, Unplugged Village Scavenger Hunts in collaboration with Little Free Library and raffle prize donations from Simon & Schuster and Wikki Stix. Volunteer coordinators in nearly 50 cities around the world will hide clues and books on gnomes.
