Dennis Raymond Redman Sr., aged 80, of Picayune, MS passed away on Saturday October 23, 2021 in Slidell, LA.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3021 Woods Road, Picayune, MS 39466, with a reception to follow at Pearl River County Senior Center, 249 Frontage Road, Picayune, MS 39466.
Dennis was a resident of Picayune, MS since 2000. A US Army veteran. He retired from the New Orleans Police Department where he served as a patroller, detective, intelligence officer and emergency division as an ambulance driver; Orléans Parish Sheriff’s Office as Captain, Commander of Swat as Team Leader and Doctor, Motorcycle, Deputy Commander of Magistrates’ Court Security, Deputy Commander Capias and Assignments Division; National Park Service, US Dept. of Interior Law Enforcement Ranger; Security Officer at the John C. Stennis Space Center in MS; Reserve Officer Picayune Police Department MS; Pearl River County Deputy Sheriff’s Office. He worked in the Auditor’s Office as a special agent investigating the Hurricane Katrina fraud. Dennis was an avid scout, moving to Eagle Scout. In 1967 he was named Scoutmaster of the Year Crescent District at NOLA. Dennis was a bear, Webelos leader, deputy pack leader and “God and Country” leader for Pack 2. Dennis received some of the other Cub Scout awards: Adult Religion Award, District Merit Award , key facilitator award, 100th year of the BSA 2010 Award of excellence for service, charter, outdoors and leadership. Dennis received the Methodist Church’s Flame and Cross Award for Christian Leadership in Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church.
Dennis was also involved in the US Air Force Auxiliary Civilian Air Patrol, serving as the Cadet Squadron Commander. He was promoted to the rank of major and deputy inspector general of the Louisiana Wing.
He was born February 13, 1941 in Minneapolis, MN, after moving with his family to Tulsa, OK, then they moved to San Antonio, TX.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, his biological father, Joseph Doyle, born in Northern Ireland; her stepfather Earl Valjean Redman and her mother Sylvia Pauline Anderson; his brother, Doyle Redman; his grandson, Haden Rivière; and his stepson Theodore Serpas, Jr.
He remains to be cherished for 28 years, (married 23/04/1993) Barbara Ann Nemeth Redman; his sons, Dennis R. Redman Jr. and his wife Kimberley, Shawn Robert Redman and his wife Rachel; his daughter, Kimberly Kristie Reinhard Kosinki .; his step-sons, Joseph Gerard Nehlig and his wife Flame, and Randy Michael Nehlig and his wife Lina; his stepdaughter, Jennifer Lynn Chapoton Nehlig; her sisters Virginia Pauline Stevens and Valérie Jean Morgan; his brothers, Charles Lyle Redman and his wife Veda, Donald George Redman and his wife Karen, and William Valjean Redman and his wife Rosalyn; her 19 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.
Dennis graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio, TX; Delgado Jr. College, graduate in Criminology and Police Science (Dean’s List – 3.4); Elaine P. Nunez Jr. College, paramedic graduate; New Orleans Police Academy, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (3rd in class) Glynco, GA, and Camp Shelby Police Training Center, MS.
Dennis served as vice chairman of the Southeast Pearl River County Board of Directors and Senior Citizen Center.
